DeMolay News and Events

Spring is…DeMolay Installation Season

Spring means many things to many people. For NORCAL DeMolay, it is installation season. A DeMolay Chapter’s term lasts six months. Installations start in late April and continue through early June. Our members attend many installations and also serve on Installation Teams for other Chapters in the Bay Area Division. Installations are fun and formal; they provide comradeship and a chance to show off a Chapter’s ritual, all ending with a party and a dance. One of the most satisfying experiences for our DeMolay is the strength of the friendships that form with members of other Chapters. They can travel all over Northern California , find a brother and a friend.

In May, we celebrate Parent’s Day on May 9th with a meeting focusing on showing our Chapter’s ritual to our members’ parents, including a Flower Talk presentation by Senior Councilor, Travis Magro. All new officers will be getting acquainted with their new stations, sponsoring prospect parties, serving at Masonic events and providing a special ritual presentation for San Francisco ’s Mission Lodge.

June is typically a pretty quiet month for DeMolay as the young men are going through finals at school and preparing for summer activities. Sadly we will be saying goodbye to Caulin Shannon, PMC-MSA, NORCAL Sr. Councilor, as he leaves us on June 18th to join the U.S. Military Academy at West Point as a Cadet. We wish Caulin the best of luck and are thankful for the inspiration and great example he has provided us.

Rainbow Girls News and Events

Over the last 2 months, our girls have been involved in:

An ongoing recycling program to recycle all of the bottles, cans, and plastic containers used at the Lodge, raising $100 for them.

We had our (excellent!) Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner in March, which included a "Silent Auction" of Easter-themed baskets and other gifts, raising almost $300.

We had our Grand Cross of Color announcement ceremony in San Francisco, where one of their Board members and one of their Rainbow girls, Tabitha MacGruder, were given the honor. Since our girls are very close with theirs, and our very own Kayla Froomin is the Dean of the Grand Cross of Color, Tabitha was chosen as the exemplar to receive the Grand Cross of Color during the official ceremony at Grand Assembly, held each year just before Easter.

Grand Assembly was held this year in Fresno between March 31 and April 3. Sadly, that was the end of Kayla Froomin's reign as the Dean of the Grand Cross of color, but she made our Assembly quite proud with her extremely impressive speeches given during the Grand Assembly proceedings, as well as the Grand Cross of Color invitation-only ceremonies. Our Assembly was further honored by having our own Krista Miloslavich become the new Grand Choir Director and representative to Ohio and Pennsylvania . Interestingly, music has always been a large part of Krista's life. In addition, Krista also has family in both Ohio and Pennsylvania , so this will give her a good excuse to visit family!

Also at Grand Assembly, our girls performed the Devotional on Sunday morning. Their uplifting words of inspiration and music stirred the crowd to a standing ovation by the end.

Later this month, our Assembly will be doing a serving for the Hope Lutheran Church in San Mateo .

As of this writing, there are currently no servings or activities scheduled for May, (but hopefully, this will change soon!).

In June, the Northern Rainbow Camp will be held in Nevada City , which is always well attended. There, the girls learn about different ways that their Assembly can help out in the Community, as well as the Grand Service Project, the San Diego Adaptive Sports Center.
